The Moscow Protestant Chaplaincy, the Moscow Youth Soccer League, and Mosgorpark have organized a subbotnik for Saturday, April 25th at 11:00 AM at Novodevicky Park near metro Sporttivnaya. A Subbotnik (from суббота, Saturday) is a Russian volunteer clean-up day that originated in the USSR and continues today. The subbotnik will give expats and Russian people a chance to work side by side and improve our city.
There will be entertainment for all ages during the park clean-up, including a food market where subbotnik volunteers can buy a variety of delicious treats. One of the food vendors, “Kofeynaya Lavochka”, will sell coffee and donate half of their revenue to Giving Hope, an international animal welfare charity whose Russian branch is headed by Leonid Yarmolnik, Andrey Makarevich, and Elena Yakovleva. Volunteers can bring books for the book exchange, which is a perfect place to find wonderful new-to-you books. The subbotnik will also feature a flea market with toys, clothes, and accessories. Several flea market vendors will sell their crafts and donate the proceeds to animal shelters.
